Overview
Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) is a size-exclusion chromatography (SEC) technique that separates analytes in organic solvents based on their molecular size. It is widely used to determine the molecular weight distribution of polymers and other high-molecular-weight compounds. Polymer systems are typically characterized by number-average molecular weight (Mn), weight-average molecular weight (Mw), z-average molecular weight (Mz), and viscosity-average molecular weight (Mv). GPC also provides critical structural information such as dispersity (the breadth of the molecular weight distribution).
The Agilent 1260 Infinity GPC/SEC Multi-Detector Suite (MDS) used at our center is an advanced four-detector system. With RI, viscometer, dual-angle static light scattering (Dual Angle LS) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) detectors, it enables acquisition of complex structural information such as absolute molecular weight, hydrodynamic diameter, and solution behavior.
